American Painted Lady Butterfly on Black-Eyed Susan Wildflower

July 18, 2014July 24, 2017hillcreekfarmpa

Found out the orange and black butterflies we have all around the farm are American Painted Ladies.  Here is one on the black-eyed susan that is growing in the open field next to the cowpeas.  There are many wildflowers in this field, so we are mowing it less often so the pollinators have plenty to eat.

Parsleyworm in the Dill

July 15, 2014July 24, 2017hillcreekfarmpa

Parsleyworms eat parsley (duh!), carrots and dill.  Since they don’t eat too much and they turn into beautiful black swallowtail butterflies, we plant extra and let them feed.

More on parsleyworms here.
